There are really only two options during a kitchen remodel. 1) Build a temporary kitchen 2) Live without one
Depending on your lifestyle and how much you use your kitchen, particularly the appliances, it might be possible to survive without a kitchen for several weeks/months, but for most people that is not an option. So what do you do? In most cases, you will have to relocate the appliances that you need on a daily basis to another room. While some appliances can easily be located to another room, there are some (such as the stove and dishwasher), that you will not be able to relocate without moving plumbing and electrical outlets. With that in mind, you may have to adjust some of your daily habits to accommodate the changes that need to be made.
If your kitchen is really just a place to eat take-out food, then living through a kitchen renovation shouldn't be that difficult. Simply moving the refrigerator and microwave into the next room should be sufficient.
If you have kids, that could create a whole new problem. It is not uncommon for homeowners to actually move out of the house during a kitchen renovation.
